A Message About Our Food Safety Procedures at Grateful Bread
Our primary concern is the health and welfare of our customers and employees, and we are committed to doing everything we can to keep them safe. We have always had exceptionally high standards for cleanliness at Grateful Bread.
We follow rigorous protocols for cleaning and sanitation at every step of our baking process. Even before COVID we had decided to commit to extensive top to bottom deep cleaning of our entire facility on a regular basis, and we have one employee dedicated to nothing but cleaning and sanitizing tables, equipment and utensils all day long, and another employee who takes apart and cleans our refrigeration compressors, ice machine, and other equipment on a weekly basis. We keep daily, weekly and monthly facility cleaning logs to track all of our cleaning, plus we have in-depth written sanitation procedures in our bakery production area including logs tracking our constant testing of the potency of our sanitizer solution that we use to sanitize and disinfect the baking tables and other equipment multiple times per day.
Since COVID we have instituted even stricter sanitation policies for our employees in order to protect both themselves and our customers during this pandemic:

- No one is allowed to come in to the bakery while sick or with any symptoms of illness, including visitors
- Our production tables and all utensils and equipment are cleaned not only with detergent but sanitized with a bleach solution numerous times per day
- We have several hand-washing sinks in our production area and our bakers follow strict procedures for frequent hand-washing, and we have increased the frequency of hand-washing for all employees
- Our employees have always worn gloves at all times when handling the bread and pastries once they come out of the oven (the high temperatures in our ovens are a “kill step” which kills any bacteria or pathogens)
- We have sanitizer wipes and sanitizer solution available in multiple locations for employees to use to clean the mouse and keyboard of the bakery computer and any other items they may touch outside of the food production area including the door handles, lockers, employee break area, before answering the phone, etc.
- Our cleaning staff is being even more thorough and meticulous in the cleaning and sanitizing of our entire facility
FOR RETAIL
Additional Precautions We Are Taking to Keep Our Customers and Employees Safe
We are committed to doing everything we can to keep you safe while you’re at Grateful Bread.
Here is a list of additional precautions we are taking for everyone’s safety and well-being at retail:
- Wearing a mask in the retail room is no longer mandatory; but we honor everyone's choices in this regard.
- No one is allowed to come in to the bakery while sick or with any symptoms of illness
- We are using a "take-a-number" system where customers will come to the outside door, take a number from the dispenser, then return to their cars (or lawn chairs) to wait for their turn. We will have an employee writing the numbers on a large whiteboard and also calling them out on a megaphone so that those in the parking lot can know when to come inside.
- We have a "line monitor" who will ensure that no one with symptoms can enter, and also will limit the number of customers allowed into the retail room at one time so that our customers can have some space between each other.
- We are providing bottles of hand sanitizer on the front table outside for customer use.
- Credit card chip readers sit securely on the countertop so you are able to insert and remove your card yourself (or use the contactless feature). Your signature is no longer required.
- The retail counter, tables, chairs and other surfaces will be cleaned and sanitized regularly throughout the day.
- The front and back doors to the retail room will remain propped open for good air flow.
- If you don't feel comfortable coming inside, please notify our line monitor and when it's your turn you may sit under the canopy outside, fill out your order on an order form and we'll take your payment and bring your order out to you.
We ask that you help us keep our community of bread lovers safe and don’t come in if you feel sick.
